| Registrations are made online, through the website of the city council, from June 8 to 17 | The artist Antonio Martínez Mengual receives the 'Brush of the Year 2020' from the Villa de Fuente Álamo International Painting Competition The Department of Culture of the Municipality of Fuente Álamo de Murcia has convened the 48th edition of the 'Villa de Fuente Álamo International Painting Competition' and has named the artist Antonio Martínez Mengual as 'Brush of the Year 2020'. As a novelty, due to the protection measures implemented by the Covid-19 pandemic and with the aim of facilitating participation for all interested artists, this year there will be a first online registration, which can be done from June 8 to 17 . "We wanted to carry out this prestigious painting contest this year, adapting it to the exceptional situation we live in." This was announced by the councilor for culture, José Antonio Oliver, in the presentation of the rules of the contest that has taken place in the plenary hall of the town hall in charge of the mayor of the municipality, Juana María Martínez; and the director of the contest, José Celdrán.
Both have agreed to highlight the importance of this contest which aims to promote, reward and disseminate contemporary pictorial creation, as well as increasing the funds of the Municipal Painting Collection with the consecration of new talents. During the appearance, Antonio Martínez Mengual (Murcia, 1948) was also named 'Brush of the Year 2020'.

His works have been exhibited in prestigious galleries, fairs and museums inside and outside our borders.
He is an indispensable figure in the Murcian cultural scene, in which he continues to be present through his collaborations with the cultural and educational institutions of the region, as well as with literary magazines.
He also continues to develop his role as illustrator of books, hand programs and posters for cultural activities and popular festivals. Once the online registration period ends, the jury will make a selection of works that will become part of the exhibitions.
These selected works must be submitted by their authors to participate in a second jury vote, which will be conducted in person, and where the winning, finalist and selected works will be announced. The jury, whose composition will be made public at the time of announcing its decision, will be made up of members of recognized prestige within the world of culture, criticism and art. The XLVIII edition of the Villa de Fuente Álamo International Painting Competition will have two prizes: the Villa de Fuente Álamo Prize, endowed with € 6,000, plus an individual exhibition by the artist; and the Círculo Medina Award, endowed with € 3,000. In addition, with the selected works a catalog will be made, edited by the City Council of Fuente Álamo, to promote said contest.
