The artist Dora Catarineu receives the'Pincel del Año 2019' of the International Painting Contest Villa de Fuente Ãlamo (21/07/2019)

The artist Dora Catarineu (Cartagena, 1946) received yesterday the 'Brush of the Year' awarded by the Villa de Fuente Alamo International Painting Contest, which also presented its two highest awards in an act that took place in the Plenary Hall of the City Council.

Next, the exhibition was inaugurated with the awarded and selected works of this contest, which will be open to the public in the 'José Hernández' exhibition hall of the Casa de la Cultura until September 1.

The mayor of Fuente Álamo, Juana María Martínez, presented the 'Brush of the Year' to Dora Catarineu, as well as the 'Villa de Fuente Álamo' Award to Juanjo Martínez Cánovas (Murcia, 1980), for his work 'In ictu oculi'.

The 'Círculo Medina' Award went to Alonso Sánchez Blesa (Puerto Lumbreras, 1969) for 'Processor B-700 (Virus K)', who picked up the award from the Councilor for Culture, José Antonio Oliver.

Then, the fifty or so people attending the event went to the House of Culture, where the inauguration of the exhibition of the International Painting Competition Villa de Fuente Alamo took place, in which, in addition to the two awarded works, they were exhibited another 21 works selected from among all participants, from Peru, Murcia, Andalusia, Extremadura, Madrid, Castilla y León, Catalonia and Valencia.

The councilman of Culture highlighted in his speech that the International Painting Contest Villa Fuente Alamo has become a "reference for national and international artists."

"Few competitions survive the passage of time with the same spirit with which it was created, 47 years ago, when a group of intrepid and breakthrough young people did not hesitate to materialize their pictorial yearnings with the creation of this contest. Circle Medina this long-running contest continues to exist, "he said.

Oliver also congratulated the winners and selected and highlighted the figure of Dora Catarineu, who "has taken his art and with it the name of our Region throughout the world," while stressing that "his work has claimed the role of the woman in art ".

The exhibition, which will be on display at the Casa de la Cultura of Fuente Álamo until September 1, can also be visited from September 13 to October 27 at the Pedro Cano Foundation in Blanca.
