The Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport, through the Directorate General for Transport and Highways has started construction of a new bridge over the ravine of Fuente Alamo, located next to the future international airport of Murcia, after his recent award for a total budget of 656,000 euros.

According to the Director General of Highways, Jose Guijarro, "work on the new bridge, which has already begun with reruns of related services, completed in December 2009 so that, once finalized, will contribute to the revitalization of the municipality by improving transit in one of the population centers that are part of the access network to the future international airport in Murcia. Furthermore, the construction of this new bridge over the ravine of Fuente Alamo is bringing greater fluency and pedestrian traffic in the area, which will result in a higher quality of life for residents of the municipality and on the other hand, This action will respond to local population increase in recent years, which has prompted municipal roads bear a high average daily traffic.

In this sense, the bridge will be built along an ellipse-shaped plaza that will serve as the road junction adjacent to the traffic order, which will reshape the path with new pavement in the driveway and sidewalk, and improve lighting the plaza and bridge.

In addition, the new bridge will link the ring road east of Fuente Alamo in the MU-601 road that leads to the future international airport in Murcia.

This action is part of the Rural Development Plan, which are being carried out numerous actions to improve the municipalities near the future international airport to adapt to the changes taking place after the completion of works the same in the second half 2010.

New cycle

On the other hand, the Director General of Highways said that the works will provide the new bridge one lane in each direction of movement of 3.5 meters, with which shall be placed two separate bicycle lanes and two 1.5-meter summer-foot sidewalks width for pedestrian traffic.
