The Murcia'Incredible Squirrels' team participates with the support of the international phase CEEIC First Lego League in the US (25/04/2015)

The Department of Enterprise, to which are attached both CEEIC and Technology Park, highlights the work being done to promote entrepreneurship at an early age

The Murcia team 'Incredible Squirrels' participates in the US in the international phase of the First Lego League, which will take place this Saturday and Sunday in the city of San Luis tournament.

This is the first team from the region that makes it to this stage, having won the regional competition, organized by the European Business and Innovation Cartagena (CEEIC), attached to the Department of Enterprise through the Institute of Development, and having qualified in third place in the national finals held in the Canary Islands.

'Incredible Squirrels' consists of children and relatives of employees of the company M. Torres, located in the Parque Tecnológico de Fuente Alamo, center is also supported by the Department of Enterprise.

Its members are between 10 and 14 years.

Info director and chairman of CEEIC, Francisco Martínez, highlighted the efforts of these young participants Murcia and stated that "for years from the Community promotes entrepreneurship at an early age with different performances like this, in which through a popular game like Legos students develop a remarkable teamwork ".

The 'Incredible Squirrels' compete in San Luis with 100 teams from around the world in an event in which Spain has been participating since 1996 and will bring together more than 22,000 people.

This final is known as World Festival, where different cultures intermingle.

The entrepreneurs of the future

First Lego League is a tournament that challenges young people between 10 and 16 years with a theme of the real world.

Through the resolution of the challenge, young people excited about science and technology and learn skills for your future career and life.

The director of Info points in this sense that "big business today began his career demonstrating skills on a small scale, as this excellent team. The young entrepreneurs 'Incredible Squirrels' are becoming an important base of knowledge and experience they will serve to become entrepreneurs of tomorrow ".

In total, more than 265,000 participants from over 80 countries took part in this global competition under the theme "How do we acquire knowledge and skills in the XXI century? '.

Thus, young people teach adults what they need to learn and how they want to learn.

The tournament consists of three parts: an exhibition of scientific work that has been done to address the challenge, which is done in classrooms closed judges;

another exhibition of securities acquired in this period;

and finally a robotics challenge that takes place on center stage, where robots designed by teams must perform a series of missions in 2.5 minutes.

In Spain are involved 1,150 teams with more than 9,000 participants, with their families, more than 2,000 volunteers and 20 institutions.
