At an extraordinary plenary session held today [Thursday 23], the Council has reviewed the water and sewer rates by adopting a new rise, the third in just over a year so that residents will pay 65% ​​more than last year.
The main cause of this sharp increase is to be found precisely in the new Service Award, awarded to a consortium formed by the current contractor, Gestagua, and the Group as General.
The new contract was awarded and signed last year, but which begins in April and provided an increase of 65%.
The reason is that the two companies moved forward to City Council awarded 10.5 million euros in monthly fees in advance for the 25-year concession.
This operation, described by the Socialist opposition as 'the mortgage of water', was the subject of political controversy because, in fact, was a double payment while the City Council awarded the contract and the fee charged a year before the beginning of his term , to have the money before the municipal elections.
The Socialist Party has warned that those 10.5 million were actually disguised a loan that the neighbors would have to be returning in their water bills over the next 25 years.
This rate increase, driven primarily by new operating conditions of the contract, shows that those warnings were based.
The rising water is added to the 35% increase in the rate of garbage, recently approved, which is collected on the same receipt.
